Aren’t elephants just out of this world? Well, this saying might become a sad reality if we continue harming them as we do now.
It is estimated that slightly less than 100 elephants are killed each day in Africa and Asia. The reasons vary from loss of elephant habitat due to tourism and overpopulation to the long-hated illegal ivory-hunting. This means that tens of thousands of elephants die each year. An astonishingly high number, isn’t it? And what’s the worst is that it is unknown. Although most people are more or less aware that the elephants are somewhat endangered, most don’t realize things have got this serious.
And the Adult Coloring Community is eager to help raise awareness about this painful topic!
We’re definitely not alone: each summer since 2012, August 12 is celebrated as “World Elephant Day” to bring attention to the urgent plight of African and Asian elephants. The cause has been joined by more than 65 organizations and involved many celebrities.
This year the Adult Coloring Fans get a chance to participate as well! Rylee Postulo has hand drawn this nice illustration of two elephants in Asian and African traditional symbols and patches holding up the world together. This drawing was named #EleeDraw and a campaign is planned about it for the Adult Coloring Community.
